Narrative:
Air carrier procedure on departure is for the gate agent to close the aircraft door. Then the purser is to make a PA to arm the doors. This I did. I then went to the 1R door, armed it, learned from the other flight attendant that the doors were armed and told the captain the cabin was ready. I then returned to runway 1L to arm it. Our procedure is that the boarding door is not armed until the jet bridge is pulled away. I then looked out the peep hole, saw the jetbridge was away, armed the door, and then proceeded to lift the door control handle in 1 motion. I then stopped in fear, for there was no reason, whatsoever, to open the door either armed or disarmed. I then pushed the handle back down into the closed and locked position. Why did I do this? I can only offer some ideas: 1) I rarely fly this airplane. In fact, I have not worked this plane in 3 months. My most intense knowledge of this plane is from training. 2) in recurrent training, we tend to do the drill rapidly and I wonder if the arming and opening of the door came too close together. 3) I had been off work for about 5 weeks, and this was my first trip back. 4) boarding was hectic and as purser/#1 on this plane, air carrier requires you to act as the galley flight attendant, as well as purser. So, not only must you count catering and make sure all galley supplies are accounted for, you also must greet passenger, make PA during boarding, and address issues brought by agents, crew, and passenger.

Title: A B757 PURSER WORRIED ABOUT HIS AUTOMATIC REACTION TO OPEN THE DOOR WHEN HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SECURING THE DOOR FOR PUSHBACK.
Narrative: ACR PROC ON DEP IS FOR THE GATE AGENT TO CLOSE THE ACFT DOOR. THEN THE PURSER IS TO MAKE A PA TO ARM THE DOORS. THIS I DID. I THEN WENT TO THE 1R DOOR, ARMED IT, LEARNED FROM THE OTHER FLT ATTENDANT THAT THE DOORS WERE ARMED AND TOLD THE CAPT THE CABIN WAS READY. I THEN RETURNED TO RWY 1L TO ARM IT. OUR PROC IS THAT THE BOARDING DOOR IS NOT ARMED UNTIL THE JET BRIDGE IS PULLED AWAY. I THEN LOOKED OUT THE PEEP HOLE, SAW THE JETBRIDGE WAS AWAY, ARMED THE DOOR, AND THEN PROCEEDED TO LIFT THE DOOR CTL HANDLE IN 1 MOTION. I THEN STOPPED IN FEAR, FOR THERE WAS NO REASON, WHATSOEVER, TO OPEN THE DOOR EITHER ARMED OR DISARMED. I THEN PUSHED THE HANDLE BACK DOWN INTO THE CLOSED AND LOCKED POS. WHY DID I DO THIS? I CAN ONLY OFFER SOME IDEAS: 1) I RARELY FLY THIS AIRPLANE. IN FACT, I HAVE NOT WORKED THIS PLANE IN 3 MONTHS. MY MOST INTENSE KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PLANE IS FROM TRAINING. 2) IN RECURRENT TRAINING, WE TEND TO DO THE DRILL RAPIDLY AND I WONDER IF THE ARMING AND OPENING OF THE DOOR CAME TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. 3) I HAD BEEN OFF WORK FOR ABOUT 5 WKS, AND THIS WAS MY FIRST TRIP BACK. 4) BOARDING WAS HECTIC AND AS PURSER/#1 ON THIS PLANE, ACR REQUIRES YOU TO ACT AS THE GALLEY FLT ATTENDANT, AS WELL AS PURSER. SO, NOT ONLY MUST YOU COUNT CATERING AND MAKE SURE ALL GALLEY SUPPLIES ARE ACCOUNTED FOR, YOU ALSO MUST GREET PAX, MAKE PA DURING BOARDING, AND ADDRESS ISSUES BROUGHT BY AGENTS, CREW, AND PAX.
