Narrative:
On departure from boston, climbing through 14000 ft, experienced a series of compressor stalls on the #2 engine. EPR surged from climb power to idle several times. All other engine parameters remained within limits. The #2 throttle was retarded to idle and compressor stalls ceased. The throttle was then returned slowly to 1.10 EPR where compressor stalls once again returned. An emergency was declared, the flight attendants briefed and given a cabin advisory. Returned to boston with the #2 engine operating and at idle thrust. Subsequent visual approach and landing to runway 22L were normal and uneventful.
