Narrative:
After multiple vectors off and on the skebr arrival, the captain needed to contact las operations to ask for a customer service agent to meet the plane. While the captain was off, the first officer took the clearance for the arrival and misinterpreted the controller's instructions to cross kimme at 8000 ft. Instead, I thought he had said to cross kepec at 8000 ft. When the captain returned, he did not question the 8000 ft clearance, because we were expecting vectors for the right base entry for runway 19L. Once the controller brought our attention to our altitude, we immediately complied with his instructions. We were in visual contact with the terrain and the airport. Terrain mapping was in use. After landing, the captain called las vegas approach on a land line and discussed the situation with a supervisor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-700 FO MISUNDERSTANDS CLRNC WHILE CAPT IS ON ANOTHER RADIO. THEY ENDED UP MISSING THEIR XING RESTR.
Narrative: AFTER MULTIPLE VECTORS OFF AND ON THE SKEBR ARR, THE CAPT NEEDED TO CONTACT LAS OPS TO ASK FOR A CUSTOMER SVC AGENT TO MEET THE PLANE. WHILE THE CAPT WAS OFF, THE FO TOOK THE CLRNC FOR THE ARR AND MISINTERPRETED THE CTLR'S INSTRUCTIONS TO CROSS KIMME AT 8000 FT. INSTEAD, I THOUGHT HE HAD SAID TO CROSS KEPEC AT 8000 FT. WHEN THE CAPT RETURNED, HE DID NOT QUESTION THE 8000 FT CLRNC, BECAUSE WE WERE EXPECTING VECTORS FOR THE R BASE ENTRY FOR RWY 19L. ONCE THE CTLR BROUGHT OUR ATTN TO OUR ALT, WE IMMEDIATELY COMPLIED WITH HIS INSTRUCTIONS. WE WERE IN VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE TERRAIN AND THE ARPT. TERRAIN MAPPING WAS IN USE. AFTER LNDG, THE CAPT CALLED LAS VEGAS APCH ON A LAND LINE AND DISCUSSED THE SIT WITH A SUPVR.
