Narrative:
Instructed to taxi to runway 4 and hold short of ILS critical area. Prior to reaching the critical area, tower cleared us for takeoff on runway 4 at intersection K1. While completing pretkof checklist, I inadvertently turned onto runway 35 which crosses both runway 4 and runway 35 at this intersection. Began takeoff roll. A very alert tower controller caught our error and takeoff was discontinued. Checklist distrs as well as not reviewing airport diagram (did not realize that 2 runways crossed at intersection) very clearly contributed to our situation. A check of our heading against our assigned runway prior to takeoff would have prevented this. Both crew members missed this very basic principle.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN HS25B CREW AT HOU WAS ABORTED BY THE TWR AFTER LINING UP ON THE WRONG RWY AND STARTING TKOF ROLL.
Narrative: INSTRUCTED TO TAXI TO RWY 4 AND HOLD SHORT OF ILS CRITICAL AREA. PRIOR TO REACHING THE CRITICAL AREA, TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF ON RWY 4 AT INTXN K1. WHILE COMPLETING PRETKOF CHKLIST, I INADVERTENTLY TURNED ONTO RWY 35 WHICH CROSSES BOTH RWY 4 AND RWY 35 AT THIS INTXN. BEGAN TKOF ROLL. A VERY ALERT TWR CTLR CAUGHT OUR ERROR AND TKOF WAS DISCONTINUED. CHKLIST DISTRS AS WELL AS NOT REVIEWING ARPT DIAGRAM (DID NOT REALIZE THAT 2 RWYS CROSSED AT INTXN) VERY CLRLY CONTRIBUTED TO OUR SIT. A CHK OF OUR HDG AGAINST OUR ASSIGNED RWY PRIOR TO TKOF WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. BOTH CREW MEMBERS MISSED THIS VERY BASIC PRINCIPLE.
