Narrative:
On approach in IMC (marginal VMC) a commuter air carrier was cleared to follow us for an approach to runway 7L. We were on ILS runway 7R. ATC advised the commuter to remain visual and not to pass us on the approach. At 2000 ft, the commuter passed us, causing a TCASII alert and a 'climb' command. As soon as we initiated the climb, a 'clear of conflict' was announced. We descended to the GS when the commuter again caused the TCASII to alert -- this time with a 'descend' command. We complied, descending 1 DOT below GS. Landed without further incident. Tower notified of TCASII alert.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-700 FLT CREW EXECUTE TCASII RA MANEUVER ON APCH TO LAX RWY 7R DUE TO AN OVERTAKING COMMUTER ON APCH TO RWY 7L. TOLD NOT TO PASS TFC ON APCH FOR RWY 7R.
Narrative: ON APCH IN IMC (MARGINAL VMC) A COMMUTER ACR WAS CLRED TO FOLLOW US FOR AN APCH TO RWY 7L. WE WERE ON ILS RWY 7R. ATC ADVISED THE COMMUTER TO REMAIN VISUAL AND NOT TO PASS US ON THE APCH. AT 2000 FT, THE COMMUTER PASSED US, CAUSING A TCASII ALERT AND A 'CLB' COMMAND. AS SOON AS WE INITIATED THE CLB, A 'CLR OF CONFLICT' WAS ANNOUNCED. WE DSNDED TO THE GS WHEN THE COMMUTER AGAIN CAUSED THE TCASII TO ALERT -- THIS TIME WITH A 'DSND' COMMAND. WE COMPLIED, DSNDING 1 DOT BELOW GS. LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. TWR NOTIFIED OF TCASII ALERT.
