Narrative:

This occurrence took place, I believe, at the paleo holding fix. If no paleo, then at denny (J-42 east of mol). The winds at altitude were approximately 150 KTS. The captain selected 'heading select' roll mode instead of LNAV for wind correction. We were busy talking with company, passenger PA's, flight attendants, and went beyond our holding fix. We eventually diverted into kbwi because of delays into klga. During the divert descent, the captain (PF) was making a PA to the passenger about the divert situation. ATC issued a clearance to 'expect' a particular arrival, but turn to 140 degree heading. The captain completed the PA, took control of the jet at the same time that the company called about the divert status. Before I could catch the mistake, the captain engaged LNAV to capture the arrival. ATC intervened and gave a new vector heading.

Title: DURING A DIVERSION, HDG AND TRACK DEV FROM CLRNC WHEN A DISTRACTED B757 PIC CAPTURES THE ARR TO BWI INSTEAD OF TURNING TO THE HDG AS ADVISED BY ZDC, DC.

Narrative: THIS OCCURRENCE TOOK PLACE, I BELIEVE, AT THE PALEO HOLDING FIX. IF NO PALEO, THEN AT DENNY (J-42 E OF MOL). THE WINDS AT ALT WERE APPROX 150 KTS. THE CAPT SELECTED 'HDG SELECT' ROLL MODE INSTEAD OF LNAV FOR WIND CORRECTION. WE WERE BUSY TALKING WITH COMPANY, PAX PA'S, FLT ATTENDANTS, AND WENT BEYOND OUR HOLDING FIX. WE EVENTUALLY DIVERTED INTO KBWI BECAUSE OF DELAYS INTO KLGA. DURING THE DIVERT DSCNT, THE CAPT (PF) WAS MAKING A PA TO THE PAX ABOUT THE DIVERT SIT. ATC ISSUED A CLRNC TO 'EXPECT' A PARTICULAR ARR, BUT TURN TO 140 DEG HDG. THE CAPT COMPLETED THE PA, TOOK CTL OF THE JET AT THE SAME TIME THAT THE COMPANY CALLED ABOUT THE DIVERT STATUS. BEFORE I COULD CATCH THE MISTAKE, THE CAPT ENGAGED LNAV TO CAPTURE THE ARR. ATC INTERVENED AND GAVE A NEW VECTOR HDG.
