Narrative:

At FL330 in cruise, the aircraft experienced compressor stalls on the #3 engine. After following applicable checklists and talking with maintenance, I restarted the engine and diverted into ZZZ without incident. At the time of the incident we were in unaccelerated wings level flight, and had been for the past 1/2 hour or so. We followed and accomplished (in order) the following checklist: compressor stalls, engine shutdown in-flight, and finally the engine restart in-flight checklist. I elected to not declare an emergency as the aircraft was handling well, while on 2 engines and the WX between us and our divert airport (as well as the airport WX itself) was solid VFR. I restarted the #3 engine because I wanted the hydraulic and electrical capability of the engine. Because of all considerations, I felt it reasonable to divert to ZZZ which was about 100 NM further away than was las vegas. Descent, approach, and landing were uneventful.

Title: FLT CREW OF DC10 EXPERIENCED COMPRESSOR STALLS IN #3 ENG AT CRUISE. MADE A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG AT AN INTERMEDIATE ARPT.

Narrative: AT FL330 IN CRUISE, THE ACFT EXPERIENCED COMPRESSOR STALLS ON THE #3 ENG. AFTER FOLLOWING APPLICABLE CHKLISTS AND TALKING WITH MAINT, I RESTARTED THE ENG AND DIVERTED INTO ZZZ WITHOUT INCIDENT. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT WE WERE IN UNACCELERATED WINGS LEVEL FLT, AND HAD BEEN FOR THE PAST 1/2 HR OR SO. WE FOLLOWED AND ACCOMPLISHED (IN ORDER) THE FOLLOWING CHKLIST: COMPRESSOR STALLS, ENG SHUTDOWN INFLT, AND FINALLY THE ENG RESTART INFLT CHKLIST. I ELECTED TO NOT DECLARE AN EMER AS THE ACFT WAS HANDLING WELL, WHILE ON 2 ENGS AND THE WX BTWN US AND OUR DIVERT ARPT (AS WELL AS THE ARPT WX ITSELF) WAS SOLID VFR. I RESTARTED THE #3 ENG BECAUSE I WANTED THE HYD AND ELECTRICAL CAPABILITY OF THE ENG. BECAUSE OF ALL CONSIDERATIONS, I FELT IT REASONABLE TO DIVERT TO ZZZ WHICH WAS ABOUT 100 NM FURTHER AWAY THAN WAS LAS VEGAS. DSCNT, APCH, AND LNDG WERE UNEVENTFUL.
