Narrative:

After taking off on runway 24 at teb, I climbed on runway heading to 1500 ft MSL then turned right to 280 degrees. I then climbed to 2000 ft MSL. My mistake was climbing before I reached 4.5 DME from teb VOR. I started my climb after making the turn, I estimate I was about 3 mi from the VOR. I think my mistake happened for the following reasons: 1) not reading the SID carefully. 2) thinking I was familiar with SID (don't fly into teb very often, but yrs ago did.) 3) not having my copilot read the SID. 4) not briefing the SID (thinking it was simple). 5) I think chart use of bold print of word 'maintain' makes SID hard to read.

Narrative: AFTER TAKING OFF ON RWY 24 AT TEB, I CLBED ON RWY HDG TO 1500 FT MSL THEN TURNED R TO 280 DEGS. I THEN CLBED TO 2000 FT MSL. MY MISTAKE WAS CLBING BEFORE I REACHED 4.5 DME FROM TEB VOR. I STARTED MY CLB AFTER MAKING THE TURN, I ESTIMATE I WAS ABOUT 3 MI FROM THE VOR. I THINK MY MISTAKE HAPPENED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 1) NOT READING THE SID CAREFULLY. 2) THINKING I WAS FAMILIAR WITH SID (DON'T FLY INTO TEB VERY OFTEN, BUT YRS AGO DID.) 3) NOT HAVING MY COPLT READ THE SID. 4) NOT BRIEFING THE SID (THINKING IT WAS SIMPLE). 5) I THINK CHART USE OF BOLD PRINT OF WORD 'MAINTAIN' MAKES SID HARD TO READ.
