Narrative:
Talking to sierra approach, level at 10000 ft, on a southwest heading, expecting vector for approach into oakland. (Given a right turn level at 10000 ft by sierra approach.) sierra approach advised us of light aircraft traffic at our 2 O'clock position, then they gave us a right turn to a northwest heading. In the level turn, TCASII announced 'traffic.' (RA was on 12 mi scale.) then TCASII announced 'climb.' complied with RA's. Had not seen traffic yet. (He had reported visual contact on us.) after initiating aggressive climb, to approximately 10500 ft, we saw him cross from right to left, under us by about 500-700 ft. He had reported level at 9500 ft IMC to approach earlier. We responded as required to the TCASII. Glad we did. Uneventful landing at oak. P.south. When we climbed, we reported such deviation to approach, told them we had a TCASII RA, and that we complied with it. They then cleared us back to 8000 ft for approach. TCASII saved our day! Good crew effort to communicate and act.

Title: ON VECTOR TO OAK FINAL APCH COURSE UNDER NCT CTL, DC10 INITIATES TCASII MANEUVER DUE TO VFR BE33 PASSING IN VICINITY.
Narrative: TALKING TO SIERRA APCH, LEVEL AT 10000 FT, ON A SW HDG, EXPECTING VECTOR FOR APCH INTO OAKLAND. (GIVEN A R TURN LEVEL AT 10000 FT BY SIERRA APCH.) SIERRA APCH ADVISED US OF LIGHT ACFT TFC AT OUR 2 O'CLOCK POS, THEN THEY GAVE US A R TURN TO A NW HDG. IN THE LEVEL TURN, TCASII ANNOUNCED 'TFC.' (RA WAS ON 12 MI SCALE.) THEN TCASII ANNOUNCED 'CLB.' COMPLIED WITH RA'S. HAD NOT SEEN TFC YET. (HE HAD RPTED VISUAL CONTACT ON US.) AFTER INITIATING AGGRESSIVE CLB, TO APPROX 10500 FT, WE SAW HIM CROSS FROM R TO L, UNDER US BY ABOUT 500-700 FT. HE HAD RPTED LEVEL AT 9500 FT IMC TO APCH EARLIER. WE RESPONDED AS REQUIRED TO THE TCASII. GLAD WE DID. UNEVENTFUL LNDG AT OAK. P.S. WHEN WE CLBED, WE RPTED SUCH DEV TO APCH, TOLD THEM WE HAD A TCASII RA, AND THAT WE COMPLIED WITH IT. THEY THEN CLRED US BACK TO 8000 FT FOR APCH. TCASII SAVED OUR DAY! GOOD CREW EFFORT TO COMMUNICATE AND ACT.
