Narrative:

In cruise flight, FL330, we felt 3 bumps in the airframe, noticed the #3 engine indications of a compressor stall. Got clearance from center to descend to FL270 and completed the engine compressor stall checklist and engine shutdown checklist. The captain decided to restart the engine in the attempt to clear the stall. The engine ran fine at flight idle but stalled again when throttle was advanced. The captain brought the throttle back to idle. We kept it there for electrical and hydraulic's capabilities of the engine. We diverted to phoenix per company instruction and landed uneventfully.
