Narrative:

The pilot took off mlb at approximately XA00 on a 040 degree heading. My desired course was 270 degrees, so I made a l-hand turn to approximately 320 degrees, then after about 2 mi, turned to 270 degrees. Next I noticed some low clouds. To avoid them, I changed to a heading of approximately 250 degrees. This path brought me over planes on the approach for runways at melbourne. At about 2000 ft, I noticed an aircraft close and made adjustments needed to prevent a collision. Upon return, I contacted tower and discussed my situation and how to correct for it so as not to happen again.
