Narrative:
I was in radar contact with pct approach inbound to washington ADIZ for landing at lee in annapolis, md. I was told 'radar service terminated, frequency change approved, maintain present heading until landing at lee.' I radioed, 'roger, thank you' and changed to lee CTAF. Then I changed squawk to 1200 ft. This is apparently where the problem came in. Nowhere did it say in the NOTAM, nor did the controller tell me to maintain the squawk code until landing. I admit he did not tell me to squawk VFR, but that is the normal procedure. I was squawking 1200 for the last 2 miles and landing at lee.
