Narrative:

En route to hospital to pick up a patient. We turned right downwind -- setting up to land to the east, level 1000 ft. After scanning the proposed landing zone on the lawn, I looked up and saw a cessna 172 immediately ahead of me passing from left to right. He appeared from 'out of the sun,' and from behind the window post. I turned left and descended to avoid hitting him, I had 'checked out' with approach control about 1 min sooner.
