Narrative:
Departing IFR from ful, which is 'left to heading of 120 degrees maintain 2000 ft' (destination was lgb), reported socal frequency 124.65 on heading of 120 degrees 1000 ft MSL. Told to maintain 1600 ft present heading and report back after obtaining lgb ATIS. I was under a view limiting device (simulated IMC) with a fully qualified and current safety pilot. The lgb ATIS is the longest in the country. I reported to socal 'have the long beach encyclopedia.' he hollered at us 'you are not supposed to go off frequency,' and gave us an immediate right turn to... At that time, I peeked out and saw the disneyland parking lot directly below us. Very soon, another voice came on frequency and we then had a normal NDB approach to lgb. 1) disneyland is now a temporarily prohibited area to 3000 ft. 2) why not knots berry farm -- 7 mi away? 3) I never left frequency, but divided my brain between 2 frequencys going to one headset. 4) directing me directly over disneyland at 1600 ft less than 2 mins away does not seem right -- prohibited or not. 5) the ATIS at long beach contains a lot of cover your ankle material, which I have complained about for yrs. 6) I listen carefully to all of it (cover your ankle). Many socal controllers seem to know this and give you the 'numbers' instead of asking me to get it -- on such a quick departure/approach time frame between many airports in socal. Single engine, single pilot IFR between 2 closely spaced airports is not boring waiting for the next thing to happen, but can be done safely if coordinated.

Title: C172 OFF FUL TO LGB WAS VECTORED THROUGH A RESTR AREA BY AN SCT CTLR.
Narrative: DEPARTING IFR FROM FUL, WHICH IS 'L TO HDG OF 120 DEGS MAINTAIN 2000 FT' (DEST WAS LGB), RPTED SOCAL FREQ 124.65 ON HDG OF 120 DEGS 1000 FT MSL. TOLD TO MAINTAIN 1600 FT PRESENT HDG AND RPT BACK AFTER OBTAINING LGB ATIS. I WAS UNDER A VIEW LIMITING DEVICE (SIMULATED IMC) WITH A FULLY QUALIFIED AND CURRENT SAFETY PLT. THE LGB ATIS IS THE LONGEST IN THE COUNTRY. I RPTED TO SOCAL 'HAVE THE LONG BEACH ENCYCLOPEDIA.' HE HOLLERED AT US 'YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO GO OFF FREQ,' AND GAVE US AN IMMEDIATE R TURN TO... AT THAT TIME, I PEEKED OUT AND SAW THE DISNEYLAND PARKING LOT DIRECTLY BELOW US. VERY SOON, ANOTHER VOICE CAME ON FREQ AND WE THEN HAD A NORMAL NDB APCH TO LGB. 1) DISNEYLAND IS NOW A TEMPORARILY PROHIBITED AREA TO 3000 FT. 2) WHY NOT KNOTS BERRY FARM -- 7 MI AWAY? 3) I NEVER LEFT FREQ, BUT DIVIDED MY BRAIN BTWN 2 FREQS GOING TO ONE HEADSET. MANY SOCAL CTLRS SEEM TO KNOW THIS AND GIVE YOU THE 'NUMBERS' INSTEAD OF ASKING ME TO GET IT -- ON SUCH A QUICK DEP/APCH TIME FRAME BTWN MANY ARPTS IN SOCAL. SINGLE ENG, SINGLE PLT IFR BTWN 2 CLOSELY SPACED ARPTS IS NOT BORING WAITING FOR THE NEXT THING TO HAPPEN, BUT CAN BE DONE SAFELY IF COORDINATED.
