Narrative:
On climb out of dfw, we lost communications. Our last assigned altitude was 13000 ft. We leveled at 13000 ft, and assessed the problem. My push-to-talk on the right yoke had broken. The microphone was stuck hot, and we had no way of communicating. We continued the joe pool department, I became the PF. We entered the wrong squawk code. Instead of 7600 we entered 7500 by mistake. The captain was able to establish communication with the observers communication panel and microphone. By ACARS we were notified that we were code 7500. We switched to 7600 and told waco approach that we had no 7500, just lost communication on the main radios. Our communication, using the observer's panel, faded in and out, and was only audible on the first officer speaker. We established communication with destination airport, and landed uneventfully. Maintenance found the push-to-talk shorted and an inoperative first officer radio panel.

Narrative: ON CLBOUT OF DFW, WE LOST COMS. OUR LAST ASSIGNED ALT WAS 13000 FT. WE LEVELED AT 13000 FT, AND ASSESSED THE PROB. MY PUSH-TO-TALK ON THE R YOKE HAD BROKEN. THE MIKE WAS STUCK HOT, AND WE HAD NO WAY OF COMMUNICATING. WE CONTINUED THE JOE POOL DEPT, I BECAME THE PF. WE ENTERED THE WRONG SQUAWK CODE. INSTEAD OF 7600 WE ENTERED 7500 BY MISTAKE. THE CAPT WAS ABLE TO ESTABLISH COM WITH THE OBSERVERS COM PANEL AND MIKE. BY ACARS WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT WE WERE CODE 7500. WE SWITCHED TO 7600 AND TOLD WACO APCH THAT WE HAD NO 7500, JUST LOST COM ON THE MAIN RADIOS. OUR COM, USING THE OBSERVER'S PANEL, FADED IN AND OUT, AND WAS ONLY AUDIBLE ON THE FO SPEAKER. WE ESTABLISHED COM WITH DEST ARPT, AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. MAINT FOUND THE PUSH-TO-TALK SHORTED AND AN INOP FO RADIO PANEL.
