Narrative:
I filed a VFR flight plan with jyo FSS to survey utilities in ny class B and ADIZ airspace. Kept one GPS turned to jfk, maintained 30 plus miles from jfk. Called ny approach control close to robbinsville to obtain transponder code and clearance to enter ADIZ. At that time, I was informed that I was 10 miles into ADIZ. I turned back to the southwest exiting ADIZ. I was given a transponder code subsequently, a clearance to continue the survey. After finishing, I landed at N87 and called ny approach and wanted to know if there was going to be a problem. I was informed that my information was filed for a violation. I didn't get a full picture of ADIZ from jyo FSS. At no time did the briefer specialist mention the 30 miles from jfk, lga, ewr airports as the outer limit of ADIZ. I was staying 30 plus miles away from jfk and outside the outer most circle of class B airspace. There is just not enough information given to the pilot by the FSS to comply with ADIZ airspace.

Title: C172 SURVEY CONTRACTOR REQUESTS N90 CLRNC THROUGH NY ADIZ, IS ADVISED OF PENETRATION VIOLATION, BUT SUBSEQUENTLY IS CLRED ON COURSE. PLT BLAMES FSS FOR INCOMPLETE INFO ABOUT ADIZ BOUNDARIES.
Narrative: I FILED A VFR FLT PLAN WITH JYO FSS TO SURVEY UTILITIES IN NY CLASS B AND ADIZ AIRSPACE. KEPT ONE GPS TURNED TO JFK, MAINTAINED 30 PLUS MILES FROM JFK. CALLED NY APCH CTL CLOSE TO ROBBINSVILLE TO OBTAIN XPONDER CODE AND CLRNC TO ENTER ADIZ. AT THAT TIME, I WAS INFORMED THAT I WAS 10 MILES INTO ADIZ. I TURNED BACK TO THE SW EXITING ADIZ. I WAS GIVEN A XPONDER CODE SUBSEQUENTLY, A CLRNC TO CONTINUE THE SURVEY. AFTER FINISHING, I LANDED AT N87 AND CALLED NY APCH AND WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE WAS GOING TO BE A PROB. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY INFO WAS FILED FOR A VIOLATION. I DIDN'T GET A FULL PICTURE OF ADIZ FROM JYO FSS. AT NO TIME DID THE BRIEFER SPECIALIST MENTION THE 30 MILES FROM JFK, LGA, EWR ARPTS AS THE OUTER LIMIT OF ADIZ. I WAS STAYING 30 PLUS MILES AWAY FROM JFK AND OUTSIDE THE OUTER MOST CIRCLE OF CLASS B AIRSPACE. THERE IS JUST NOT ENOUGH INFO GIVEN TO THE PLT BY THE FSS TO COMPLY WITH ADIZ AIRSPACE.
