Narrative:
Approaching ugn, I was IMC until approximately 10 mi east, and broke out in the clear. Sighted the airport, advised ATC, and was immediately cleared for visual approach to runway 5, right traffic. I had it in sight, as I turned base. I lost sight of the runway, and due to the high wing blocking the view, when I regained sight of the runway, I was too high and fast. I misjudged the length of the runway, and thought it would be ok. I touched down about halfway down. I couldn't stop, and overran the end of the runway into swampy mud that covered the tires. We took out 2 approach lights and 1 runway light. After exiting the aircraft and speaking with someone from tower, I was informed of the wind being a quartering tailwind. I think there should be more training emphasis on right traffic for high wing aircraft. Since I mainly use controled airports, I very seldom am assigned right traffic at a full pattern location. I misjudged the runway length, having just come out of IMC. Seeing the runway so clearly, it seemed longer than it was.

Title: RWY EXCURSION AS AN MU2 PLT FLIES A DESTABILIZED APCH, OVERSHOT HIS TOUCHDOWN POINT ON RWY, AND HAS RWY EXCURSION. PLT ENDED U WITH MUD ON GEAR DURING HIS ENSUING CONTACT WITH RWY AND APCH LIGHTS AT THE END OF RWY 5 AT UGN, IL.
Narrative: APCHING UGN, I WAS IMC UNTIL APPROX 10 MI E, AND BROKE OUT IN THE CLR. SIGHTED THE ARPT, ADVISED ATC, AND WAS IMMEDIATELY CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH TO RWY 5, R TFC. I HAD IT IN SIGHT, AS I TURNED BASE. I LOST SIGHT OF THE RWY, AND DUE TO THE HIGH WING BLOCKING THE VIEW, WHEN I REGAINED SIGHT OF THE RWY, I WAS TOO HIGH AND FAST. I MISJUDGED THE LENGTH OF THE RWY, AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OK. I TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT HALFWAY DOWN. I COULDN'T STOP, AND OVERRAN THE END OF THE RWY INTO SWAMPY MUD THAT COVERED THE TIRES. WE TOOK OUT 2 APCH LIGHTS AND 1 RWY LIGHT. AFTER EXITING THE ACFT AND SPEAKING WITH SOMEONE FROM TWR, I WAS INFORMED OF THE WIND BEING A QUARTERING TAILWIND. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE MORE TRAINING EMPHASIS ON R TFC FOR HIGH WING ACFT. SINCE I MAINLY USE CTLED ARPTS, I VERY SELDOM AM ASSIGNED R TFC AT A FULL PATTERN LOCATION. I MISJUDGED THE RWY LENGTH, HAVING JUST COME OUT OF IMC. SEEING THE RWY SO CLRLY, IT SEEMED LONGER THAN IT WAS.
