Narrative:

I was parked at the FBO at huf (terra haute) and requested progressive taxi instructions. I was on my final leg of a solo cross country. The ground controller instructed me to taxi down taxiway C and hold short of runways 36/18. I missed the runway sign, and when I approached runways 36/18, I wasn't sure if it was a taxiway or a runway, as it was poorly paved and I couldn't see any white-dashed runway lines. When I was about halfway onto the runway, the ground controller informed me that I had taxied onto an active runway. I back-taxied behind the hold short point and had a discussion with the controller. I will definitely be more alert and attentive in the future.

Narrative: I WAS PARKED AT THE FBO AT HUF (TERRA HAUTE) AND REQUESTED PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. I WAS ON MY FINAL LEG OF A SOLO XCOUNTRY. THE GND CTLR INSTRUCTED ME TO TAXI DOWN TXWY C AND HOLD SHORT OF RWYS 36/18. I MISSED THE RWY SIGN, AND WHEN I APCHED RWYS 36/18, I WASN'T SURE IF IT WAS A TXWY OR A RWY, AS IT WAS POORLY PAVED AND I COULDN'T SEE ANY WHITE-DASHED RWY LINES. WHEN I WAS ABOUT HALFWAY ONTO THE RWY, THE GND CTLR INFORMED ME THAT I HAD TAXIED ONTO AN ACTIVE RWY. I BACK-TAXIED BEHIND THE HOLD SHORT POINT AND HAD A DISCUSSION WITH THE CTLR. I WILL DEFINITELY BE MORE ALERT AND ATTENTIVE IN THE FUTURE.
