Narrative:

Descending into sjc, on arrival, the flight was given a 270 degree heading to intercept the ILS from approach to runway 30L. The flight was level at 8000 ft, and a climbing aircraft was approaching on TCASII. We had a RA with the aircraft about 2 mi away and climbing 300 ft below our aircraft. We descended to avoid and advised ZOA. They wanted to know if we were established on a 270 degree heading, and we affirmed that. They thought we were south of where we should have been. ZOA then cleared us to 7000 ft and switched us off to norcal approach. Supplemental information from acn 579540: we got an RA to descend to avoid traffic. We did see the traffic about same time we descended.

Narrative: DSNDING INTO SJC, ON ARR, THE FLT WAS GIVEN A 270 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT THE ILS FROM APCH TO RWY 30L. THE FLT WAS LEVEL AT 8000 FT, AND A CLBING ACFT WAS APCHING ON TCASII. WE HAD A RA WITH THE ACFT ABOUT 2 MI AWAY AND CLBING 300 FT BELOW OUR ACFT. WE DSNDED TO AVOID AND ADVISED ZOA. THEY WANTED TO KNOW IF WE WERE ESTABLISHED ON A 270 DEG HDG, AND WE AFFIRMED THAT. THEY THOUGHT WE WERE S OF WHERE WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN. ZOA THEN CLRED US TO 7000 FT AND SWITCHED US OFF TO NORCAL APCH. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 579540: WE GOT AN RA TO DSND TO AVOID TFC.
