Narrative:

This incident occurred during taxi from FBO to runway 9L at west palm beach, fl. The first taxi instruction from ground control was to 'hold short of runway 9R at taxiway south.' before we got to taxiway south that instruction was changed to 'cross runway 9R.' (I thought I heard: 'cross runway 9R/left and monitor tower') between runway 9L/right on taxiway south I noticed a hawker (I think) pulling onto runway 9L (for takeoff). I was doing the taxi and I asked the first officer: are we cleared to cross? (At this point I meant the left runway and I was certain we were cleared that way). His reply was: 'yes.' we crossed the left runway as the hawker stopped in a normal position and hold fashion. As we switched from ground to tower frequency the tower controller was calling us and seemed to be puzzled as to why we crossed. I don't remember exactly what he said, but the first officer replied without hesitation,
