Departure from dulles on an assigned heading of 250 degrees. Cleared by potomac departure to climb and maintain 10000 ft. At 5500 ft, tcasi indicated traffic at 12 O'clock position, 800 ft above us, proceeding right to left. Called controller, and he answered to maintain 5000 ft.
