Narrative:
Over kenmore air, I announced landing intentions for pae class D airport. I announced 3 times waiting 2 mins between announcements. After the third announcement, I was told to use a downwind right approach to runway 34R. This did not seem to make sense, since I was approaching from the south. I requested a straight-in approach to runway 34R, and was given permission. Approach and landing went fine. I requested a taxi back so that I could take off again right away. I mistakenly held short of an intersection and announced that I was ready for takeoff. The controller pointed this out. I taxied to the next gate, and held short of the runway entrance. I announced that I was ready to take off on runway 34R. I waiting about 1 min, and again announced that I was ready for takeoff. I waited for about 1 min again, and repeated that I was a student pilot, and asked whether I had clearance for takeoff. I waited for another min and still did not get a response. I turned off my radio and turned it on again. I was unsure at this point if I had already received permission to take off. I saw no other traffic. I announced that I was taking off. I took off and turned right at 700 ft AGL. I then heard from the controller that my frequency change was approved, and I proceeded to my home airport. I talked with flight instructors at harvey field (S43). They said that since I was unsure that I had clearance to take off, I should not have done so. I should have taxied back to the hangar and should have kept trying to contact the controller. If I could not, I should have parked the plane and called harvey field.

Title: STUDENT PLT DEPARTED PAE WITHOUT ATC CLRNC.
Narrative: OVER KENMORE AIR, I ANNOUNCED LNDG INTENTIONS FOR PAE CLASS D ARPT. I ANNOUNCED 3 TIMES WAITING 2 MINS BTWN ANNOUNCEMENTS. AFTER THE THIRD ANNOUNCEMENT, I WAS TOLD TO USE A DOWNWIND R APCH TO RWY 34R. THIS DID NOT SEEM TO MAKE SENSE, SINCE I WAS APCHING FROM THE S. I REQUESTED A STRAIGHT-IN APCH TO RWY 34R, AND WAS GIVEN PERMISSION. APCH AND LNDG WENT FINE. I REQUESTED A TAXI BACK SO THAT I COULD TAKE OFF AGAIN RIGHT AWAY. I MISTAKENLY HELD SHORT OF AN INTXN AND ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS READY FOR TKOF. THE CTLR POINTED THIS OUT. I TAXIED TO THE NEXT GATE, AND HELD SHORT OF THE RWY ENTRANCE. I ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS READY TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 34R. I WAITING ABOUT 1 MIN, AND AGAIN ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS READY FOR TKOF. I WAITED FOR ABOUT 1 MIN AGAIN, AND REPEATED THAT I WAS A STUDENT PLT, AND ASKED WHETHER I HAD CLRNC FOR TKOF. I WAITED FOR ANOTHER MIN AND STILL DID NOT GET A RESPONSE. I TURNED OFF MY RADIO AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN. I WAS UNSURE AT THIS POINT IF I HAD ALREADY RECEIVED PERMISSION TO TAKE OFF. I SAW NO OTHER TFC. I ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS TAKING OFF. I TOOK OFF AND TURNED R AT 700 FT AGL. I THEN HEARD FROM THE CTLR THAT MY FREQ CHANGE WAS APPROVED, AND I PROCEEDED TO MY HOME ARPT. I TALKED WITH FLT INSTRUCTORS AT HARVEY FIELD (S43). THEY SAID THAT SINCE I WAS UNSURE THAT I HAD CLRNC TO TAKE OFF, I SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE SO. I SHOULD HAVE TAXIED BACK TO THE HANGAR AND SHOULD HAVE KEPT TRYING TO CONTACT THE CTLR. IF I COULD NOT, I SHOULD HAVE PARKED THE PLANE AND CALLED HARVEY FIELD.
