Narrative:
Location: deviation southwest of bacca fix. Upon approaching bacca at FL350 we were painting an extensive line of thunderstorms in IMC along our route with no holes ahead or to the northeast. WX was clear to the southwest so we requested and was approved for a heading of 230 degrees for approximately 100 mi. Later, due to traffic, we were told to descend to FL280. This descent put us into IMC. ZHU approved deviation south direct iah when able. Both pilots, due to the extensiveness of the WX were on their respective radars at different ranges to both avoid the WX and plan a route. It seems as though we were in radio contact the whole time, also monitoring 121.5. Due to the workload associated with the deviations it was difficult to accurately determine our exact position with relation to the shoreline. Flight avoided thunderstorm activity and proceeded to lax.

Title: EXTENSIVE DEVS FOR WX MAY HAVE RESULTED INFLT IN NON COMPLIANCE OVERWATER EQUIP AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.
Narrative: LOCATION: DEV SW OF BACCA FIX. UPON APCHING BACCA AT FL350 WE WERE PAINTING AN EXTENSIVE LINE OF TSTMS IN IMC ALONG OUR RTE WITH NO HOLES AHEAD OR TO THE NE. WX WAS CLR TO THE SW SO WE REQUESTED AND WAS APPROVED FOR A HEADING OF 230 DEGS FOR APPROX 100 MI. LATER, DUE TO TFC, WE WERE TOLD TO DSND TO FL280. THIS DSCNT PUT US INTO IMC. ZHU APPROVED DEV S DIRECT IAH WHEN ABLE. BOTH PLTS, DUE TO THE EXTENSIVENESS OF THE WX WERE ON THEIR RESPECTIVE RADARS AT DIFFERENT RANGES TO BOTH AVOID THE WX AND PLAN A RTE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH WE WERE IN RADIO CONTACT THE WHOLE TIME, ALSO MONITORING 121.5. DUE TO THE WORKLOAD ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEVS IT WAS DIFFICULT TO ACCURATELY DETERMINE OUR EXACT POS WITH RELATION TO THE SHORELINE. FLT AVOIDED TSTM ACTIVITY AND PROCEEDED TO LAX.
