Narrative:
Received clearance to taxi to runway 15L at iah from gate. There was no specific taxi route assigned. We taxied on 'nf' to 'nb' missing the 'northeast' to 'northwest' turn to runway 15L. This resulted in an inadvertent crossing of the approach end of runway 15L. This mistake was a result of a relatively short taxi (first officer head down entering final weights and running the checklist) and pilot fatigue caused by 2 consecutive days of long duty periods (11.5 hours and 12.8 hours) followed by a 9 hour layover at the airport hotel.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A319 TAXIING FOR DEP AT IAH CROSSED RWY WITHOUT ATC CLRNC.
Narrative: RECEIVED CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 15L AT IAH FROM GATE. THERE WAS NO SPECIFIC TAXI RTE ASSIGNED. WE TAXIED ON 'NF' TO 'NB' MISSING THE 'NE' TO 'NW' TURN TO RWY 15L. THIS RESULTED IN AN INADVERTENT XING OF THE APCH END OF RWY 15L. THIS MISTAKE WAS A RESULT OF A RELATIVELY SHORT TAXI (FO HEAD DOWN ENTERING FINAL WTS AND RUNNING THE CHKLIST) AND PLT FATIGUE CAUSED BY 2 CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF LONG DUTY PERIODS (11.5 HRS AND 12.8 HRS) FOLLOWED BY A 9 HR LAYOVER AT THE ARPT HOTEL.
