Narrative:
We climbed to 2000 ft MSL before reaching teb 4.5 DME during the teb 5 SID out of teb. Although this did not cause a known conflict with traffic, it was a possible dangerous situation. The before takeoff brief included the SID profile. My first officer briefed and flew the SID. He did not mention the 4.5 DME restr. After his brief, I glanced at the SID (teb 5) and also did not catch the restr. I was busy dealing with a maintenance issue before departure and my mind was not completely focused on the SID brief. Also, I have flown out of teb on the same SID uncountable times in the past. I have also flown with the first officer in the past and became complacent because he usually does a thorough job. In the future, I will leave problems with the company on the ground and concentrate on the task on hand. I will also not become complacent with anyone I fly with or my own abilities or past experiences. Lesson learned!
