Narrative:

After takeoff, aircraft cleared 'left from heading 180 degrees.' then cleared left turn direct byi. Aircraft was climbing to pre departure clearance altitude of 12000 ft. As aircraft passed through 7000 ft, controller called out traffic at 1 O'clock position. Captain 'acknowledged and looking.' almost immediately received an RA to descend (green arc on vsi was -- 2000 FPM). I followed RA command, initiated descent, and the RA cleared. Captain advised controller of RA. Controller stated that the other aircraft had us in visual contact. Neither of us saw the other aircraft. Controller had called it a cessna on initial traffic call.
