Narrative:
During initial part of a water takeoff, a vessel was observed in the entrance of the channel. The takeoff was initiated in the channel to lift off in the 6000 ft wide river. Vessel location was in the normal takeoff path. The vessel was stationary with adequate room on right hand side of vessel. Judged continued takeoff to be safe. Takeoff path between vessel and shore was 300-400 ft wide. Water was smooth, wind direction resulted in a direct headwind, approximately 5 KTS. Continued takeoff and was at approximately 40 ft MSL when passing vessel on right hand side. Vessel appeared to have stopped to allow us a safe takeoff. Possible future corrective action: talk to vessels in the area on marine VHF.
