Narrative:
Taxied from concourse in mia. Instructions were txwys P, V, Q to runway 9L. Turned onto taxiway P, then onto taxiway V where we were told to hold and give way to a B757 crossing runway 12 on taxiway Y. The controller promptly amended the instructions and told us to follow the B757. Unfortunately, because the taxiway markings are so poor and because the instruction just to follow resulted in my missing taxiway Q and turning onto runway 12 directly behind the B757 crossing runway 12. I realized immediately, the controller calmly said to simply exit on taxiway Y and rejoin taxiway Q behind the B757. Problem: poor markings on txwys. Contributing factor: instructions being given during taxi somewhat distracting, prompting attention on other aircraft when we should have been paying attention to location.

Title: THE DISTR OF A REVISED TAXI CLRNC AND POOR ARPT MARKINGS CONTRIBUTE TO A RWY INCURSION ONTO RWY 12-30 AT TXWY V AT MIA.
Narrative: TAXIED FROM CONCOURSE IN MIA. INSTRUCTIONS WERE TXWYS P, V, Q TO RWY 9L. TURNED ONTO TXWY P, THEN ONTO TXWY V WHERE WE WERE TOLD TO HOLD AND GIVE WAY TO A B757 XING RWY 12 ON TXWY Y. THE CTLR PROMPTLY AMENDED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND TOLD US TO FOLLOW THE B757. UNFORTUNATELY, BECAUSE THE TXWY MARKINGS ARE SO POOR AND BECAUSE THE INSTRUCTION JUST TO FOLLOW RESULTED IN MY MISSING TXWY Q AND TURNING ONTO RWY 12 DIRECTLY BEHIND THE B757 XING RWY 12. I REALIZED IMMEDIATELY, THE CTLR CALMLY SAID TO SIMPLY EXIT ON TXWY Y AND REJOIN TXWY Q BEHIND THE B757. PROB: POOR MARKINGS ON TXWYS. CONTRIBUTING FACTOR: INSTRUCTIONS BEING GIVEN DURING TAXI SOMEWHAT DISTRACTING, PROMPTING ATTN ON OTHER ACFT WHEN WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAYING ATTN TO LOCATION.
