Narrative:
Controller did not grant a turn to go around what I thought was a thunderstorm. She got busy and I made a turn to stay clear of storm. She later called me on it, at which time I told her to declare an emergency if necessary.

Title: ENRTE ACFT INITIATES WX DIVERSION WITHOUT PRIOR ATC APPROVAL.
Narrative: CTLR DID NOT GRANT A TURN TO GO AROUND WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A TSTM. SHE GOT BUSY AND I MADE A TURN TO STAY CLR OF STORM. SHE LATER CALLED ME ON IT, AT WHICH TIME I TOLD HER TO DECLARE AN EMER IF NECESSARY.
