Narrative:

I spoke with williamsport FSS to file my IFR flight plan to annapolis, md. I was under the impression the tfr/ADIZ was no longer in effect. Having made this trip numerous times in VFR conditions, a VFR departure is common, efficient and desirable. With these factors in mind, I departed on a 1200 VFR code. Upon departure, I attempted immediate contact with potomac approach. After several attempts, potomac responded and advised me that a discrete transponder code was required. This immediately created stress in that I realized the ADIZ was in effect. At that point I was given phone numbers to call once I reached my destination which I did immediately.
