Narrative:
Aircraft had a #1 engine start cable worn. 'B' check lead asked if I would help and change the cable. I told him that I had only done a couple of cable changes and never done it alone. He retrieved the cable rack along with the maintenance manual. I then asked for help. We then proceeded to replace the cable. We had swagged the ball end on the quadrant and then turned over to dayshift. On jul/sat/03, I was in the process of doing another cable and realized that I might have installed the incorrect cable type. I then notified the person who was the inspector on this. We then contacted the supervisor who decided that we would inspect the aircraft on jul/sun/03 in ZZZ. On the night of jul/sun/03, a line ron inspector and a hangar quality control inspector inspected the cable and found that the cable was indeed incorrect type. Aircraft was brought to the hangar where I replaced the cable with the correct cable type.
