Narrative:
Took off on runway 18R on hornet 1 departure in clt flying to orf. ATC issued heading of 270 degrees which we turned to. Leveled off at 8000 ft. ATC frequency 120.5, captain was PF. Then turned to ATC assigned heading 350 degrees. Started turning to new ATC assigned heading 360 degrees when a new excited voice came on frequency and said, 'air carrier xyz turn left immediately to heading 270 degrees.' ATC also gave immediate turn instructions to another aircraft. I kicked the autoplt off and took control manually turning to 270 degree heading at 8000 ft. As I started the turn reversal we got a TCASII RA demanding a descent of 1500 FPM. I immediately complied with the RA and descended to 7200 ft until clear of conflict issued by TCASII. 3 air carrier X aircraft were involved with this near miss. I called clt ATC when in orf. Supervisor said it was an ATC mistake causing conflict.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A LOSS OF SEPARATION RESULTING IN AN RA DURING DEP FROM KCLT RWY 18R.
Narrative: TOOK OFF ON RWY 18R ON HORNET 1 DEP IN CLT FLYING TO ORF. ATC ISSUED HDG OF 270 DEGS WHICH WE TURNED TO. LEVELED OFF AT 8000 FT. ATC FREQ 120.5, CAPT WAS PF. THEN TURNED TO ATC ASSIGNED HDG 350 DEGS. STARTED TURNING TO NEW ATC ASSIGNED HDG 360 DEGS WHEN A NEW EXCITED VOICE CAME ON FREQ AND SAID, 'ACR XYZ TURN L IMMEDIATELY TO HDG 270 DEGS.' ATC ALSO GAVE IMMEDIATE TURN INSTRUCTIONS TO ANOTHER ACFT. I KICKED THE AUTOPLT OFF AND TOOK CTL MANUALLY TURNING TO 270 DEG HDG AT 8000 FT. AS I STARTED THE TURN REVERSAL WE GOT A TCASII RA DEMANDING A DSCNT OF 1500 FPM. I IMMEDIATELY COMPLIED WITH THE RA AND DSNDED TO 7200 FT UNTIL CLR OF CONFLICT ISSUED BY TCASII. 3 ACR X ACFT WERE INVOLVED WITH THIS NEAR MISS. I CALLED CLT ATC WHEN IN ORF. SUPVR SAID IT WAS AN ATC MISTAKE CAUSING CONFLICT.
