Narrative:

We were cleared to hold at neuto intersection on the rmg STAR into atl. After 1 turn in the holding, both captain and first officer noticed an aircraft on TCASII at our altitude on the STAR approaching neuto, approximately 15 mi from our position. As the traffic approached, we established visual contact with the aircraft, an MD88. Subsequently, we received a TCASII TA when we were approximately 3 mi from the conflicting aircraft. ZTL immediately instructed us to make a hard right turn while telling the MD88 to make a hard left turn. Once clear of traffic, we resumed holding at neuto and the MD88 was descended to FL280 and given holding instructions.
