Narrative:
I announced initiating takeoff roll on runway 31. A commuter flight later called leaving terminal to taxi for takeoff. Unicom advised 'we have a bonanza departing runway 31.' it looked like the commuter made an abrupt stop between the hold line and the runway. I was already airborne and going by that taxiway. Someone from the commuter made a snide remark which I really didn't catch. I am a retired airline captain. I know how busy it can be leaving the gate area and setting up for takeoff. It looked to me like they did not properly monitor the unicom frequency and had 2 heads in the cockpit until they had to jump on the brakes. In the cockpit until they had to jump on the brakes. My recommendation: we have pilot controled runway lights, VASI's, etc. Why can't we add pilot controled flashing red lights at taxiway/runway intxns on non controled airports. The lawsuits from one demolished airliner would pay for a lot of red lights.

Narrative: I ANNOUNCED INITIATING TKOF ROLL ON RWY 31. A COMMUTER FLT LATER CALLED LEAVING TERMINAL TO TAXI FOR TKOF. UNICOM ADVISED 'WE HAVE A BONANZA DEPARTING RWY 31.' IT LOOKED LIKE THE COMMUTER MADE AN ABRUPT STOP BTWN THE HOLD LINE AND THE RWY. I WAS ALREADY AIRBORNE AND GOING BY THAT TXWY. SOMEONE FROM THE COMMUTER MADE A SNIDE REMARK WHICH I REALLY DIDN'T CATCH. I AM A RETIRED AIRLINE CAPT. I KNOW HOW BUSY IT CAN BE LEAVING THE GATE AREA AND SETTING UP FOR TKOF. IT LOOKED TO ME LIKE THEY DID NOT PROPERLY MONITOR THE UNICOM FREQ AND HAD 2 HEADS IN THE COCKPIT UNTIL THEY HAD TO JUMP ON THE BRAKES. IN THE COCKPIT UNTIL THEY HAD TO JUMP ON THE BRAKES. MY RECOMMENDATION: WE HAVE PLT CTLED RWY LIGHTS, VASI'S, ETC. WHY CAN'T WE ADD PLT CTLED FLASHING RED LIGHTS AT TXWY/RWY INTXNS ON NON CTLED ARPTS. THE LAWSUITS FROM ONE DEMOLISHED AIRLINER WOULD PAY FOR A LOT OF RED LIGHTS.
