Narrative:
En route holding. We encountered loud bangs and violent shakes that seemed to originate from nose gear area. We declared an emergency and decided to land at ZZZ. The vibrations and noise occurred for 6-8 seconds every 3-4 mins. They occurred in all configns, gear up or down, and at all flap settings. Thrust setting was between flight idle and 75% N1. We landed without incident and found no visible aircraft damage. Supplemental information from acn 589471: experienced severe vibrations and noises from the aircraft at FL270. The aircraft speed was approximately 310 KTS. The vibrations seemed to be coming from the right side of the aircraft possibly the floor. There were 4 occurrences that lasted approximately 6-8 seconds. Later a passenger that had been seated in the last row told me that he had believed the noises were coming from under his feet. We declared an emergency. There were no EICAS messages and a postflt inspection did not reveal any clues.
