Narrative:
In-flight medical emergency. We were flying from mdw to mia, cruising at FL410, sbound, over the pie VOR. The flight attendants reported a potential medical emergency in progress. A xa yr old female customer complained of chest pains. 3 customers volunteered to help: er nurse, medical student and emt. Company medical advisor was contacted while flight attendants got pertinent information. The xa yr old female said she was en route to mia for an organ transplant within the next 12 hours. I declared a medical emergency. At this point, we were about equidistant from pie, mco, and mia. I went direct mia. I passed vital statistics to mia operations to relay to paramedics. Our 3 volunteers assessed her as, '...oriented and alert.' passing 10000 ft, we were still slowing (275 KTS). We requested traffic priority and landed opposite direction on runway 12 to expedite landing and taxi in. We landed XA21Z, at the gate XA22Z. Our 'patient' was taken off the plane and in a wheel chair talking to the paramedics.
