Narrative:

My wife and I were sightseeing the apostle islands with no intent of landing! We had flown around about 4 islands (never over) at about 1000 ft AGL and about 2000 ft or more laterally. Lake superior is rarely cavu, so we decided to land. We intended to taxi (we thought as a 'boat' to a sand beach). Shortly after beaching, park rangers boated over to us and informed us we violated the airspace by taxiing to the shore. I was mistaken in my thinking from my training that when on water, you are a boat. I was not cited for this violation.
