Narrative:
We were landing on runway 28R at san francisco international airport. We were cleared to land and were not told to hold short of any runway, taxiway or any other area. After landing and while still on the runway, the tower asked us to take a taxiway that we could not make. Going past this taxiway, the tower informed us that we had taxied onto an active runway (which was a perpendicular runway used for departures). The tower then had to cancel air carrier Y takeoff clearance. I feel had the tower informed us before landing, that they needed us to make a certain runway, we would have told them if we could have complied or not. We are not allowed to accept land and hold short per our operations manual.
