Narrative:

Shortly after departing, while climbing, we received a clearance to turn left heading 190 degrees. Our response was to continue on a heading of 270 degrees due to level 5 and 6 thunderstorms left of course. ATC responded unable, turn left 190 degrees. Once again we requested present heading. ATC responded turn left 190 degrees. We responded unable due WX. ATC responded 'I am filling out the paperwork now.' based on our judgement, turning into a thunderstorm was not the safest course of action. Also, within this time period SIGMET 87E was active, stating level 4-5-6 thunderstorms.
