Narrative:
While taxiing in to gate this morning, we had approximately 20 ft to travel before we stopped and the cargo door open light illuminated. This is the third time in as many months that I have highlighted this hazard. Apparently nothing is being done. This has to stop before we either ingest a person into the engine, suck up some FOD, or run over someone. We have a very clear cut procedure to stop this from occurring. My recommendation is that if this happens in the future, the captain is directed to stop the aircraft and shut down the engines. The aircraft can be towed to the parking position if need be. This is a truly unacceptable practice at dfw. I will work through the union to get this practice put in place if air carrier does not do anything to rectify the situation. This is occurring too much. Let's fix it before we hurt somebody or do multi-million dollar damage to a jet engine.
