Narrative:
Taxi instruction missed. Exiting runway 9R, we switched to ground control and she was talking to another aircraft, so we waited until she finished which took a long time with non ground control conversation as we inched forward to clear the high speed exit because there was another aircraft landing behind us. By the time we could talk to her she instructed me to turn on taxiway M and it was too late -- we had inched too far. So we continued on taxiway M3 to double back on taxiway D to follow a jet then told to turn left 2 times to get back on taxiway M and then wait for our gate to open. She said we did not wait for taxi instruction, but I thought we should clear the high speed for the next aircraft. She was also too slow with the previous aircraft and then spoke very fast to us. We had to ask her to repeat what she said fast and this made her mad.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD80 CREW FOUND THE GND CTL FREQ CONGESTED AND MOVED TO CLR THE HIGH SPD TURNOFF. THIS IRRITATED THE GND CTLR. THEY THEN ASKED THE GND CTLR TO REPEAT THE CLRNC WHICH IRRITATED HER FURTHER.
Narrative: TAXI INSTRUCTION MISSED. EXITING RWY 9R, WE SWITCHED TO GND CTL AND SHE WAS TALKING TO ANOTHER ACFT, SO WE WAITED UNTIL SHE FINISHED WHICH TOOK A LONG TIME WITH NON GND CTL CONVERSATION AS WE INCHED FORWARD TO CLR THE HIGH SPD EXIT BECAUSE THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT LNDG BEHIND US. BY THE TIME WE COULD TALK TO HER SHE INSTRUCTED ME TO TURN ON TXWY M AND IT WAS TOO LATE -- WE HAD INCHED TOO FAR. SO WE CONTINUED ON TXWY M3 TO DOUBLE BACK ON TXWY D TO FOLLOW A JET THEN TOLD TO TURN L 2 TIMES TO GET BACK ON TXWY M AND THEN WAIT FOR OUR GATE TO OPEN. SHE SAID WE DID NOT WAIT FOR TAXI INSTRUCTION, BUT I THOUGHT WE SHOULD CLR THE HIGH SPD FOR THE NEXT ACFT. SHE WAS ALSO TOO SLOW WITH THE PREVIOUS ACFT AND THEN SPOKE VERY FAST TO US. WE HAD TO ASK HER TO REPEAT WHAT SHE SAID FAST AND THIS MADE HER MAD.
