Narrative:
After touchdown, landing runway 24 in bdl, ATC cleared me (safe occupant) to taxi onto intersecting runway 1/19 then taxiway T, to the ramp. I slowed down to almost a complete stop looking for runway 24/19 intersection. After turning and coming to what I thought was a 'in-pavement' centerline light, I realized too late that I was by the edge (right) of runway 1/19. I corrected promptly to taxi on the center of the runway without noticing anything unusual. After inspecting my plane and discovering damage done to one of the propeller blade, I called airport operations, we looked for missing lights finding one on the right edge of runway 1/19 missing. False impression of being in a safe position to divide attention between taxi and cockpit management may have been the primary contributing factor for this occurrence. Also, inadequate runway signs and markings of this intersection may have contributed to this incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PA31 PLT MISTOOK RWY EDGE LIGHTS FOR CTRLINE LIGHTS AND HIT ONE AFTER THE ATCT LCL CTLR CLRED THE PLT TO TAXI ON RWY 19, AFTER LNDG ON RWY 24 AT BDL.
Narrative: AFTER TOUCHDOWN, LNDG RWY 24 IN BDL, ATC CLRED ME (SAFE OCCUPANT) TO TAXI ONTO INTERSECTING RWY 1/19 THEN TXWY T, TO THE RAMP. I SLOWED DOWN TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP LOOKING FOR RWY 24/19 INTXN. AFTER TURNING AND COMING TO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A 'IN-PAVEMENT' CTRLINE LIGHT, I REALIZED TOO LATE THAT I WAS BY THE EDGE (R) OF RWY 1/19. I CORRECTED PROMPTLY TO TAXI ON THE CTR OF THE RWY WITHOUT NOTICING ANYTHING UNUSUAL. AFTER INSPECTING MY PLANE AND DISCOVERING DAMAGE DONE TO ONE OF THE PROP BLADE, I CALLED ARPT OPS, WE LOOKED FOR MISSING LIGHTS FINDING ONE ON THE R EDGE OF RWY 1/19 MISSING. FALSE IMPRESSION OF BEING IN A SAFE POS TO DIVIDE ATTN BTWN TAXI AND COCKPIT MGMNT MAY HAVE BEEN THE PRIMARY CONTRIBUTING FACTOR FOR THIS OCCURRENCE. ALSO, INADEQUATE RWY SIGNS AND MARKINGS OF THIS INTXN MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS INCIDENT.
