Narrative:
As we approached the holding area for runway 4, we were about #3 for takeoff. The B737 (who was at the ILS hold line) in front of us was asked to expedite into position and then cleared for takeoff. Because of the expeditious takeoff clrncs that were happening at the time, I taxied up to the B4 hold line (which is closer to the runway) passing the ILS hold line. I was about 10-20 ft past the ILS hold line when the tower asked, 'what are you doing' and told us to stop (which we did). Then the tower told the aircraft that was on about 2 mi final to go around and then cleared us into position and takeoff. The rest of the flight was normal. When I arrived at den, I called the tower chief at lga who was on duty at the time of the event. We discussed what had happened and he thanked me for the call and said that separation was never compromised and that nothing further needed to be done. Then I called the duty manager and discussed the situation and then filed this report.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 PASSED ILS HOLD LINE AT LGA PROMPTING AN ATC DIRECTED GAR.
Narrative: AS WE APCHED THE HOLDING AREA FOR RWY 4, WE WERE ABOUT #3 FOR TKOF. THE B737 (WHO WAS AT THE ILS HOLD LINE) IN FRONT OF US WAS ASKED TO EXPEDITE INTO POS AND THEN CLRED FOR TKOF. BECAUSE OF THE EXPEDITIOUS TKOF CLRNCS THAT WERE HAPPENING AT THE TIME, I TAXIED UP TO THE B4 HOLD LINE (WHICH IS CLOSER TO THE RWY) PASSING THE ILS HOLD LINE. I WAS ABOUT 10-20 FT PAST THE ILS HOLD LINE WHEN THE TWR ASKED, 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING' AND TOLD US TO STOP (WHICH WE DID). THEN THE TWR TOLD THE ACFT THAT WAS ON ABOUT 2 MI FINAL TO GO AROUND AND THEN CLRED US INTO POS AND TKOF. THE REST OF THE FLT WAS NORMAL. WHEN I ARRIVED AT DEN, I CALLED THE TWR CHIEF AT LGA WHO WAS ON DUTY AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT. WE DISCUSSED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HE THANKED ME FOR THE CALL AND SAID THAT SEPARATION WAS NEVER COMPROMISED AND THAT NOTHING FURTHER NEEDED TO BE DONE. THEN I CALLED THE DUTY MGR AND DISCUSSED THE SIT AND THEN FILED THIS RPT.
