Narrative:

Aircraft X has a history of electrical malfunctions, specifically aircraft xtie lockout sits. Mid oct/03 this captain experienced an AC xtie lockout malfunction in-flight en route to a florida destination. All cabin lights failed and after using the appropriate checklist, power was re-established. The aircraft logbook contained a similar entry the following flight day with the same problem (AC xtie lockout) with no elaboration. Prior to gate departure on flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1 two days later, the APU unexpectedly stopped leaving the aircraft on battery power only. Both the flight crew and maintenance personnel were unable to establish external power to the aircraft busses. This aircraft was refused for flight because of the recurrent problems with the electrical system, based in part on my personal experience with this particular aircraft.

Title: A CAPT REFUSED AN MD80 WITH A CHRONIC MAINT HISTORY OF ELECTRICAL PWR PROBS. AC XTIE AND GND PWR LOCKOUTS.

Narrative: ACFT X HAS A HISTORY OF ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS, SPECIFICALLY ACFT XTIE LOCKOUT SITS. MID OCT/03 THIS CAPT EXPERIENCED AN AC XTIE LOCKOUT MALFUNCTION INFLT ENRTE TO A FLORIDA DEST. ALL CABIN LIGHTS FAILED AND AFTER USING THE APPROPRIATE CHKLIST, PWR WAS RE-ESTABLISHED. THE ACFT LOGBOOK CONTAINED A SIMILAR ENTRY THE FOLLOWING FLT DAY WITH THE SAME PROB (AC XTIE LOCKOUT) WITH NO ELABORATION. PRIOR TO GATE DEP ON FLT FROM ZZZ TO ZZZ1 TWO DAYS LATER, THE APU UNEXPECTEDLY STOPPED LEAVING THE ACFT ON BATTERY PWR ONLY. BOTH THE FLT CREW AND MAINT PERSONNEL WERE UNABLE TO ESTABLISH EXTERNAL PWR TO THE ACFT BUSSES. THIS ACFT WAS REFUSED FOR FLT BECAUSE OF THE RECURRENT PROBS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYS, BASED IN PART ON MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PARTICULAR ACFT.
