Narrative:
Aircraft experienced tailpipe fire on right engine during start. Investigation/troubleshooting revealed fuel switch in incorrect position during engine start. Problem resulted from first officer's normal patterns/flows disrupted.

Title: MD88 FO BEGAN ENG START WITH THE ENG FUEL SHUTOFF, IN THE ON POS. A TAILPIPE FIRE WAS THE RESULT.
Narrative: ACFT EXPERIENCED TAILPIPE FIRE ON R ENG DURING START. INVESTIGATION/TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED FUEL SWITCH IN INCORRECT POS DURING ENG START. PROB RESULTED FROM FO'S NORMAL PATTERNS/FLOWS DISRUPTED.
