Narrative:
While en route, approximately 1 hour from arrival, dfw, the crew noticed an abnormal fuel burn. Main tank fuel had approximately 1000 pounds in each tank with center fuel tank, capacity at about 9000 pounds. Crew consulted the MD80 QRH and complied with all appropriate checklists. Captain radioed dispatch and the crew was advised that there would be no appreciable effects with this fuel load pertaining to center of gravity or structural concerns. Flight proceeded to dfw and landed without further incident. During completion of the QRH checklists, it was discovered that circuit breaker J-21 (aft center fuel pump) was tripped. This was problematic for another crew on the flight previous to this flight, written up in sea, flight on oct/mon/03. Maintenance replaced the referenced circuit breaker. All fuel pumps were verified operational prior to departure, during the originating checklist performed by the first officer. First officer reporting.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD80 IN CRUISE, FLT CREW DISCOVERED FUEL NOT BEING BURNED FROM CTR TANK. FOUND CTR TANK PUMP CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPPED.
Narrative: WHILE ENRTE, APPROX 1 HR FROM ARR, DFW, THE CREW NOTICED AN ABNORMAL FUEL BURN. MAIN TANK FUEL HAD APPROX 1000 LBS IN EACH TANK WITH CTR FUEL TANK, CAPACITY AT ABOUT 9000 LBS. CREW CONSULTED THE MD80 QRH AND COMPLIED WITH ALL APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS. CAPT RADIOED DISPATCH AND THE CREW WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WOULD BE NO APPRECIABLE EFFECTS WITH THIS FUEL LOAD PERTAINING TO CTR OF GRAVITY OR STRUCTURAL CONCERNS. FLT PROCEEDED TO DFW AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. DURING COMPLETION OF THE QRH CHKLISTS, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT CIRCUIT BREAKER J-21 (AFT CTR FUEL PUMP) WAS TRIPPED. THIS WAS PROBLEMATIC FOR ANOTHER CREW ON THE FLT PREVIOUS TO THIS FLT, WRITTEN UP IN SEA, FLT ON OCT/MON/03. MAINT REPLACED THE REFED CIRCUIT BREAKER. ALL FUEL PUMPS WERE VERIFIED OPERATIONAL PRIOR TO DEP, DURING THE ORIGINATING CHKLIST PERFORMED BY THE FO. FO RPTING.
