Narrative:
While being vectored for approach from the west, we were given a visual approach to runway 33. First officer was flying and turned on a left downwind for runway 33, but staying within 5 mi from runway. We turned base leg while descending for approach and got a terrain warning. First officer immediately pulled up and warning stopped. We were then too high to make a normal landing, so we turned away from the runway with tower's permission and proceeded on a left downwind and made another visual approach and landing to runway 33, which was uneventful. No flap or gear overspds were observed. Supplemental information from acn 598205: we were cleared for a visual approach to runway 33 from an extended left base. I was descending, slowing as I made a left turn to final. The gear was down with flaps 2 degrees and the captain had just pushed for managed speed. The runway was in sight and I believe we were above GS when we received terrain warning.

Title: AN A320 FLT CREW RECEIVES A GPWS ALERT WHILE TURNING ONTO FINAL 5 MI SE FOR RWY 33 DURING A NIGHT VISUAL APCH TO BTV, VT.
Narrative: WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR APCH FROM THE W, WE WERE GIVEN A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 33. FO WAS FLYING AND TURNED ON A L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 33, BUT STAYING WITHIN 5 MI FROM RWY. WE TURNED BASE LEG WHILE DSNDING FOR APCH AND GOT A TERRAIN WARNING. FO IMMEDIATELY PULLED UP AND WARNING STOPPED. WE WERE THEN TOO HIGH TO MAKE A NORMAL LNDG, SO WE TURNED AWAY FROM THE RWY WITH TWR'S PERMISSION AND PROCEEDED ON A L DOWNWIND AND MADE ANOTHER VISUAL APCH AND LNDG TO RWY 33, WHICH WAS UNEVENTFUL. NO FLAP OR GEAR OVERSPDS WERE OBSERVED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 598205: WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 33 FROM AN EXTENDED L BASE. I WAS DSNDING, SLOWING AS I MADE A L TURN TO FINAL. THE GEAR WAS DOWN WITH FLAPS 2 DEGS AND THE CAPT HAD JUST PUSHED FOR MANAGED SPD. THE RWY WAS IN SIGHT AND I BELIEVE WE WERE ABOVE GS WHEN WE RECEIVED TERRAIN WARNING.
