Narrative:
While climbing en route to hou, ZME asked us to be at FL350 by XA30 and 1/4 mi (estimated) and gave us a time hack which myself and the first officer set our clocks to. Climbing through FL345 with 45 seconds to go till our time was up, ATC asked about our altitude. When we told him we had 500 ft to go he said that was bad and we were 1 min late, plus there was traffic at our 1 O'clock position just below us. I never had him on TCASII plus I was still showing 45 more seconds to spare.
