Narrative:
We were on short final to runway 35 at mco when we were instructed to go around because of an aircraft in position on runway 35. We cleared to 1500 ft on a heading of 010 degrees. After leveling at 1500 ft we received a TCASII RA to descend. The first officer started to descend, but then noticed a company aircraft coming up underneath us and slightly to the right. He stopped the descent to avoid hitting the other aircraft. We told the controller what was going on and he told us to turn right to 090 degrees. This would again put us into the other aircraft because it was right beside us at this time. We told the controller and he told us to stay on present heading at 1500 ft. We were then cleared for a visual runway 18R. We would recommend that takeoff clearance be canceled for the departing aircraft because he was at a very slow speed when we were told to go around. Alternatively, he should have made sure we were assigned a different heading from the start of the go around.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-700 CREW AND A B737 HAD AN NMAC AFTER THE ATCT LCL CTLR TOLD THE B737-700 CREW TO GO AROUND, AND THEN ALLOWED ANOTHER B737 TO TAKE OFF UNDER THE GAR ACFT.
Narrative: WE WERE ON SHORT FINAL TO RWY 35 AT MCO WHEN WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO GO AROUND BECAUSE OF AN ACFT IN POS ON RWY 35. WE CLRED TO 1500 FT ON A HDG OF 010 DEGS. AFTER LEVELING AT 1500 FT WE RECEIVED A TCASII RA TO DSND. THE FO STARTED TO DSND, BUT THEN NOTICED A COMPANY ACFT COMING UP UNDERNEATH US AND SLIGHTLY TO THE R. HE STOPPED THE DSCNT TO AVOID HITTING THE OTHER ACFT. WE TOLD THE CTLR WHAT WAS GOING ON AND HE TOLD US TO TURN R TO 090 DEGS. THIS WOULD AGAIN PUT US INTO THE OTHER ACFT BECAUSE IT WAS RIGHT BESIDE US AT THIS TIME. WE TOLD THE CTLR AND HE TOLD US TO STAY ON PRESENT HDG AT 1500 FT. WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR A VISUAL RWY 18R. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THAT TKOF CLRNC BE CANCELED FOR THE DEPARTING ACFT BECAUSE HE WAS AT A VERY SLOW SPD WHEN WE WERE TOLD TO GO AROUND. ALTERNATIVELY, HE SHOULD HAVE MADE SURE WE WERE ASSIGNED A DIFFERENT HDG FROM THE START OF THE GAR.
