Narrative:
During night visual approach to lax, we received a TCASII alert on the right base leg. We were following a company B757. Our altitude was 2500 ft MSL and approximately 17 mi from lax. Our altitude was at the base of class B airspace. On base leg, we noticed a large structure fire just offset to our left on the right base leg. At about the same time we received a TCASII alert. The TCASII displayed a target at our 12 O'clock position immediately in front of us. TCASII alerted us to monitor vertical speed. We maintained level flight at 2500 ft MSL. We spotted a helicopter at our 11 O'clock position less than 1/2 mi. TCASII indicated the target about 300 ft below. It appeared to be circling the fire. No evasive action was taken. The approach was continued with landing on runway 25L.
